*Progressive: a person advocating or implementing social reform or new, liberal ideas.
I chose my Progressive Topic to be something related to L.G.B..T.Q. issues. I chose this topic because it is a very broad topic. I wanted to focus on empowering the youth because for any youth who is L.G.B.T.'Q... has more obstacles in their life, especially the L.G.B.T.Q.. youth of color. I also chose this topic because I wanted to bring awareness to the youth homelessness and poverty within my community and how I had a whole different life planned to leave my own home if I was not going to be accepted in my own house for being who I am..
2. Project Process: Stanford Design Thinking:
-Empathize & Define:
The first part of Stanford Design Thinking we had to make a QSW( Quotes, Summary, Wanderings) worksheet that had 4 different articles. The articles needed to be read, summarized, and should've left questions for us to ask. Here is a link to see the articles and work we accomplished: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1oI7r7lh6OTUDfqr3VF6XZKLQQkb9cMDoM0xi7iz8HWI/edit?usp=sharing
Interview Questions:
The second step after researching was to write questions for an expert, advocate, victim, and opposer in our topic. We chose to narrow down our issue to L.G.B.T.Q. Youth Homelessness and Poverty so we came up with questions based on our topic. Here is a link to see the questions we wrote for each interviewees:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/18MTxn3Je3NxdmknL_Dv7t-yZuoCONR29gghkTba2NPQ/edit?usp=sharing
Immersive Experience:
After interviewing four different people, my partner and I came up with an immersive experience that would be close to understanding what an L.G.B..T.Q. homeless youth might go through. So we were in one area for a couple of hours without our phones or transportation got by during the day without any resources ( except our phone for camera purposes) and didn’t ask anyone for help or for anything. We got to think about where we would sleep ? Where can we get food ? What about water ?

Video Journal Reflection:
After our Immersive Experience, we had to make a video reflection based on what we did, how we felt about our experience, and what questions we gained throughout our experience. Human Centered Problem:
Once we got back from our immersive experience, we had to create a diagram with what we think was the actual root of our topic. The way this works is we had to connect the things we thought are the roots of our issue with each other and see which one had the least causes and effects. We found out that discrimination is the main cause of L.G.TB.T.Q. Youth Homelessness and Poverty. Our human centered problem is, "People aren't aware that taking action on behalf of their beliefs on LGBT people people can lead to poverty and LGBT youth homelessness."

Stage 1 & 2 Presentation:
After gathering all our information from our research, interviews, immersive experience, and diagram we had to make a power-point to present to our class. Here is a link to our presentation :https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1gLVAsLzpX436DSHyizq8-pZkrvcEzFSVYgBTxK86sA0/edit?usp=sharing
Ideate:
Once finishing our Empathize & Define stage we needed to think about things we could to to spread the word about our topic or make a change. One thing we did was mind-map, which was to start with a main and very unrealistic idea, and come up wit different things that we can do based off of that idea. Here are my groups mind-maps:

Story-Mapping:
After mind-mapping, my partner and I came up with the idea to create an Instagram page where we share L.G.B..T..Q. people's story's and add pictures that go with them. In order to make our Instagram page we had to make a story map which is to have a detailed document with five different features that we wanted to have. and have figured out.

Prototype:
Our prototype is what we created to came a difference for our topics. We created an Instagram Page focusing on L.G.B.T.Q. Youth. Our page share's L.G.B.T.Q. People's stories in order to leave an impact/empower L.G.B.T.Q. Youth.
Here is a link to our rough draft on our Instagram page and what we should post: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wGavObgGyGTik0hxYUaXnI87HnvaSIU8fitRy9eKMvg/edit?usp=sharing

Test:
Once we finished our Prototype, we had to exhibit it to the community. My partner and I made decorated a trifold poster and added our process into making our prototype. We visited San Diego LGBT Pride, Balboa Park, and the San Diego LGBT Community Center and handed out flyers, interviewed people and explained our process.

Modifications:
Some Modifications I would make to improve my prototype is to reach out more to people and places than can help advertise our Instagram Page to have more views and followers. I would also modify my website by polishing it and adding my stories on to it.

Self Reflection of the Progressive Project:
What was the most challenging part of the work around the Progressive Challenge for you and how did you overcome it?
-The most challenging part of the progressive project for me would have to be getting people to listen to us and give a chance to explain what our Instagram page does. People automatically assumed that we were trying to get money from them, so we tried many different approaches to getting people's attention. What we did to overcome our challenge was at the end, we decided to approach people who glanced at our trifold instead of just anyone and it actually worked. My partner and I actually got two girls to hear about our page and got to interview and take pictures of them.
What do you most appreciate/value about the work around the Progressive Challenge and how did you gain that perspective?
-What I appreciate about the work around the progressive challenge is how we as teens get to make an impact and try to make a change on a topic that we are passionate about I appreciate that I got to educate and spread awareness to my classmates, teachers, and people I didn't know about L.G.B..T. issues through the Progressive Challenge. I really value the importance of the work we did because all of the students in my class are passionate about different things, and its great that there are so many issues that we tried to tried to bring awareness too. I gained this perspective when our student teacher Steve came to check up on us. He told my partner and I how even if we don't get to talk to many people, just us being out there in three different locations, spreads awareness on our Instagram page and the issue we focused on.
What have you learned and gained so far in our study of progressivism not only on a personal level but also academic understanding?
-I have learned that progressivism is a change, and to make that change we need to everyone to be aware. Which is basically what we did in our progressive challenge. We made a prototype to make a change, and spread knowledge on why we made our prototype so that everyone can be aware of our topic.
How do you feel your progressive challenge project impacted your user? What changes would you make after testing it?
-I feel like my progressive challenge project impacted our user in many ways. It impacted our user by what we were doing during our progressive challenge day, we educated to people about our topic. We also impact the user by what our Instagram page does. The page is an account with stories about what L.G.B.T.Q. people go through and overcome, which impacts our user by letting them know that they are not alone and that there is people just like them in the world. The changes that I would make after testing it is really work on our website by adding all of our stories that we have already shared on Instagram onto our page, make our website overall look very neat, and reach out to other organizations and people to share and advertise our page to really make more of a difference.
