Internship Blog:
Site Visit:
My site visit went really well. I spoke to my mentor and got to know more about him with the questions. I did feel like the questions were a little too complex to be asking, and felt dumb asking these questions but we still managed to get through them. I love how this office is very accepting and diverse, I like the overall structure and environment that this organization provides.
Me and my mentor came up with some ideas for my project. We came up that it had to do with volunteer management and event planning. My mentor is going to have me help him out with his department, and do my big project once we come up with something. Overall i am really excited to intern here and be a part of this organization.

My hopes for this internship are to get more experience in office work. I would like to know more about what someone does in an office. My dreams for this internship are to learn more about what the San Diego Pride Office does in preperation for this big event. There is definitely going to be a difference from going to their huge event and actully preparing for the event and the many things that need to be done in order to make it happen.
My fears for this internship is that I will mess something up, because a lot of what they do here is important. I see this experience benefiting my education because here I will be learning about many more sofwares and how to use them, which will also benefit my future because I am interested in buisiness and office work.

My Mentor is Jesus Sanchez. He has worked in the nonprofit sector for nine years, specifically managing volunteers. He has his masters degree in nonprofit managment and leadership. Right now he oversees the volunteer programs at san diego pride but he would like to be a director. My mentor is experiencwed in peogram design and has worked with and consulted with various nonprofits in san diego county.
. Ive been impressed
Jan 5: San Diego Pride's mission statement is, "Fostering pride in and respect for all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities, locally, nationally, and globally." I definitely see this in anything that they do. I see it especially because of their big events, their pride parade qand music festival, it is an event in celebration of the LGBT Community. They do not just throw the event, but they gather volunteers that are either alliies or members of the LGBT community and they all come together. I also see this because they associate and give back to many things in the community. Overall they definitely do what they stand for, which is why they are very successful.
Jan 6: What I am most surprised by this first week of internship is how well I can take direction. Ive also been impressed on how good I ask questions in order to do something the exact way that I am asked to do so. This has happened when I had to go on the volunteer system that has their information. My task was to go througha list ssnd fill in the highlighted boxes and fill them in with the missing information that I would find by going into their volunteer file and finding that information there. And I also did great in following instructions when my mentor asked me to create a step by step powerpoint in how to update information and answeringn any added questions in their volunteer accounts. I have overall been surprised by how good I have been doing this week and fulfilling my work to my mentors expecations.
Jan 9: My co-workers name is Jose Rodriguez. He is the Office Mannager at San Diego Pride. He handles accounting, human resources, pay role, I.T., tenants, and facilities. His career path is Administrative Managment. He went to school at King University in Tennessee. He has a bachelors in Business.
Jan 10: The Volunteer Managment department, and the overall organization benefits with the work that I do because I also overlook the contigent sumbissions. The overall, LGBTQA community are the ones that benefit with the work that the San Diego Pride organization does. Overall at my intenrship everyone is working on different things, and my mentor gives me different tasks to accomplish in their departments. People benefit from our work because its basically all of the departments planning and putting in work to have the Pride Parade and music festival.
Jan 11: My intership project will be two things. I will be helping with Communications by captioning the videos that pride has published on youtube. I will be watching the videos and typing extactly what is happening and what is being said. The final product will have all of the videos with subtitles for people with hearing disabilities, which benefits the organization for thinking about and supplies for everyone and their needs. Also another mini preoject for me will be checking everyday for any new submissions for the pride parade and making alist will all of the information, in a certain type of format. The final product will have the overall list with the current organizations that submitted an application. This benefits my organization by having an organized list and have the propper information they need in order to allow them in the parade.

The social interaction at my internship workplace are off and on. Everyone talks to eachother but when we need to work we dont really talk. My mentor and I do spend a lot of time socializing since i am right by his workspace. We are not really isolated but we do our own things. There are cubicles inside rooms and they have desks with computers on them. There arent really much collaboration projects but if I need feedback i ask my mentor about it. The social dynamic reflects our organizations work because our work is spot on, but we still socialize.

I see myself growing over the course of my internship in my office skills. I see myself now struggling with making documents and making cool things now that I know how to use different softwares. I see my internhip changing the way I consider the paths the future will take because I am considering to study to become a teacher, so the skills i am learning now which can help if i do become a teacher. My role has developed because I now have bigger and important tasks to get done.

Jan 17: I commented on Chaska, Jade, and Mia Bali's blogs. What stood out to me was our similarities. Mia and I have similar situations in which it depends on the day that our office really socializes. With Chaska we have similar hopes for our internship, and points of view from our experience in out internship. Jade's internship blog just stood out to me especially her selfies, they just really made my day. I don't really see any differences/contrasts besides how our internship sites are all different. I do not have any questions.
Jan 18: The biggest challenge that I am facing at this internship is actually adding the subtitles to San Diego Pride's youtube videos because a lot of the people talk fast so I cant really understand exactly what they are saying, and also subtitling the videos can be time consuming and it becomes a little frustrating to here the same person speak. There hasnt really been a challenge that arose in my internship team had because most of us have independent tasks so we havent got to that yet. I dont think that I will be seeing any challenges, but I think that there will be many challenges later in the year when it becomes closer to pride.
Jan 19: a. What limitations have you recognized in yourself that you want to overcome during internship, or use this internship experience to help you overcome.
The liminations that I have recognized in myself that I use during this internship experience is my behavior in a professional setting. I see myself more professional-like and propper because this is an office.
b. What lessons or experiences at your internship will you bring back to school to help you further improve in your academics?
The experiences at my internship that I will bring back to school are definitely to take my time more seriouisly, and not waste as much time at school like I usually do and acutally put in work.
Jan 20: Compare and contrast the work week with the school week. How are your responsibilities, work, interactions, and time different? How might internship influence the direction of your life?
- The work week with the school week and work week are not similair because here, we are more independent and get out work done faster, where in school we have to be at the class's speed and socialize more. I get more responsibilities here but I get similair work like I did in school, like making documents. The time here is better because I start at 10 a.m. instead of being at school at 8:25. I already adressed how the internship influences my life in one of these blog posts.
What can you bring from internship to who you are in school? How was your work as an intern meaningful to your education? How was your work significant or meaningful for you beyond school and your specific internship site?
-I can bring my time managment to how i do things at school. My work as an intern is more meaningful to my education because its giving me the thought that I need to manage and put in more work into my education. My work is significant to me beyond school and my internship site because I know what I am doing my work for this event celebrating my community.
